Prompt Pay Law – ARIZONA

ARIZONA SUMMARY OF EXISTING LAW

Insurer shall pay for services rendered within 30 days upon receipt of a clean claim, unless otherwise specified by contract. If claim is not a clean claim, insurer must provide information needed to adjudicate the claim. If a clean claim is not paid, interest shall accrue at a rate equal to the legal rate.

PRACTICAL NOTE FOR EXISTING LAW

While PBMs are not specifically mentioned, they are likely included as an agent for insurance companies. Arizona also has a well developed requirement for an internal system for resolving payment disputes that can be utilized to obtain proper payments. However, the statute allows modification of the time period to pay by contractual agreement.
