Perverse incentives? Why some 340B pharmacies are opting for branded drugs

A GAO report released late last week reveals that some contracting practices for 340B pharmacies may create incentives to use higher-cost drugs when a cheaper alternative might do. Under the 340B program, providers that cater to low-income patients can receive steep discounts on drugs, and many of these hospitals and clinics contract with outside pharmacies.
